For many years, 2shores has been offering selected, finest grade examples of air-cooled Porsches. This Porsche 356 A Convertible D is one of those examples!

The 356A Convertible D model was built from 1958 to 1959, with 1,330 vehicles produced. The body of the 356A Speedster, whose production ended with the appearance of the Convertible D, was still used, but no longer by Reutter in Zuffenhausen, but by Drautz in Heilbronn (D like Drautz). The Porsche market in the USA had demanded a roadster that was still sporty and light, but a little more comfortable, as a replacement for the Speedster with its low windscreen and its unusable plug-in windows on the side. So, the "Speedster" Convertible D was developed for the last model year of the 356A, now with a raised windscreen, crank windows in the doors and more comfortable seats. An extremely beautiful sports car in every detail.
Due to its gorgeous shape and rarity, the 356A Convertible D is one of the most sought-after Porsche models today.

On April 29, 1959, this Convertible D was delivered from the factory to the dealer D'Ieteren in Brussels.
On May 21, 1959, the first owner, Mr. Bruce Commings, took possession of the car and took it home to the USA.
On July 10, 1959 with 173 miles and on July 21, 1959 with 1,683 miles respectively, warranty claims were asserted via the general importer Hoffman (New York).
These claims are documented in the Kardex card and in the original service booklet.

The car remained in the possession of the original owner's family in Arizona until it was sold to the famous comedian, actor and renowned Porsche collector Jerry Seinfeld, who integrated this car into his Porsche collection.

Anyone who knows us knows that for many years we have specialized in vehicles that have been preserved in their original state, possibly original paint. 
However, this vehicle occupies a very special place and we are extremely thrilled to be able to offer this unique car to our clientele.

The original California Title signed by Jerry Seinfeld is part of the documentation.
The car is 100% "matching numbers"!
The doors, hoods and bumpers are also original and marked with the last digits of the chassis number.
The vehicle was factory-equipped with a radio, two loudspeakers and an antenna.
The color designation is Meissen blue per Kardex card, the interior is noted as Kunstleder.

The car is structurally in excellent condition and the bodywork is very well preserved due to the dry climate of Arizona and California.
Traces of the years and use can be seen on the entire vehicle.
The paint is heavily patinated, the primer is showing through in some places.
The soft top is very aged and has a small tear but is still functional overall.
The interior is partly untouched and original, partly revised a long time ago.
The appearance of the car is perfectly coherent, this Convertible D tells its unique story in every detail. Priceless and impossible to duplicate.

Technically the car is in good condition.
All components have been checked, carefully revised where possible and only replaced when absolutely necessary. Greatest importance was given to the careful preservation of originality and patina that has developed over so many years. It runs and drives fantastic.
